Atlantic placed four golfers in the top five in dominating Tuesday’s Hawkeye Ten Conference boys tournament at Crestmoor Golf Club.
The Trojans finished with a team score of 307 for a 23-stroke cushion over runner-up St. Albert Catholic in a tight five-way battle for the other top positions.
Clarinda and Kuemper Catholic were each one stroke behind St. Albert at 331, while Glenwood and Harlan completed the top six with scores of 332 and 333.
Two Atlantic golfers were involved in a sudden-death playoff for meet medalist. Hudson McLaren sank a birdie putt to edge teammate Tristan Hayes on No. 4 at Crestmoor, designated as the first playoff hole. Both Trojans shot 4-over 76 for the day.

Atlantic golfers Brady Wood and Gage Gross took third place and fifth place with rounds of 77 and 78. Only Kuemper Catholic’s Braxton Vonnahme managed a top-five spot besides Trojan golfers, taking fourth at 78 (handicap holes determined tiebreakers for placings).
“Atlantic good, they are very deep,” Creston coach Steve Shantz said.

Creston placed ninth among 10 teams with a score of 361. Junior Kylen Parsons led the Panthers with a score of 14-over par 86. Marshall Long was second on the team with an 87.
“Kylen Parsons did a nice job. He was low for us with an 86 and got off to a nice start,” Creston coach Steve Shantz said. “Marshall Long broke his driver on the range right before the meet started. So, he started out and then got another driver from home. It took him few holes to get going but he had a strong front nine with a 40. Branden Spencer was third for us with a 93. He’s going to be good. He’s just a freshman. Garret Troutwine struggled early, then he came back and did OK. Jake Hoyt started strong but he got into a lost ball situation and that hurt him.”

The Panthers see many of the same teams in the Class 3A Sectional at Atlantic on May 13. ADM, Atlantic and Winterset are expected to be top contenders in a field that also includes Clarke, Glenwood, Harlan and Red Oak.
