Spartans capture title at Graceland Spring Invite

Alexander Cordrey of Southwestern Community College finished in a 3-way tie for second place at the Graceland Spring Invitational last weekend. The Spartans came away with an invite win.

The Southwestern Spartans men’s golf team competed in two tournaments this past week, showcasing resilience at the NSIC Preview before storming to victory at the Graceland Spring Invitational.

NSIC Preview Invitational (March 24-25 Blue Springs, Mo.)

Facing a challenging field at Adams Pointe Golf Club, the Spartans finished 14th overall in the NSIC Preview. Freshman Alexander Cordrey delivered a standout performance, carding a final-round 69 (-3), one of the lowest rounds of the tournament.

Cordrey’s strong finish moved him up the leaderboard and demonstrated his ability to compete against top NCAA Division II talent.

Other contributors included Freddie Muggeridge (+9), Elliot Lorentzon (+16), Evan Powell (+18) and Sofus Lyck (+12), who each battled through challenging conditions to gain valuable experience against a competitive field.

Graceland Spring Invitational (March 28-29 Maryville, Mo.)

Four days later, the Spartans rebounded in dominant fashion, capturing the team title at the Graceland Spring Invitational at Mozingo Lake Golf Club.

Southwestern posted a two-day total of +38, outpacing Buena Vista and Simpson College by double-digit margins.

Muggeridge led the way, firing a second-round 71 (-1) to finish tied for second individually at +7. Cordrey followed, carding rounds of 74-74 (+7) to share second place. Lorentzon (75-75, +7) also tied for second, while Powell (78-78, +21) and Justin Miller (82-82, +21) rounded out the scoring for the Spartans.

The victory marks a significant confidence boost for the program as they continue their spring schedule.
