Police Line

Amber N. Shields, 40, of Shannon City, was taken into custody Oct. 25, in the 100 block of West Taylor Street on the charge of OWI, first offense.

According to a Union County Sheriff’s Office report, at approximately 11:16 a.m. the Adams County Sheriff’s Office notified Union County of a possible intoxicated driver leaving Adams County eastbound on Highway 34.

Deputies located the 2012 Grand Caravan near the KSIB corner and followed it to a gas station parking lot, where they made contact with the driver, identified as Shields. While speaking with Shields, she admitted to drinking before driving and three containers of Hawkeye Vodka were found in the vehicle.

She consented to field sobriety testing and showed numerous signs of impairment. Shields refused a PBT and to provide a breath specimen for chemical testing.

Shields was transported to the Union County Jail where she was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Shields was charged in February with OWI and entered a guilty plea on the charge in October. She has not been sentenced in the first case.
