Tracey A. Sorter, 56, of Creston, was taken into custody 8:37 p.m. Oct. 30, at her residence on a Union County warrant for the charges of possession of paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, first offense and OWI, first offense.
According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 6:24 p.m. Aug 27, a traffic stop was conducted on a 1999 Chevrolet Prism at Maple and Adams streets for a seat belt violation. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Sorter. During the course of the stop, Creston Police K-9 Olga was deployed and gave a positive alert to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle.
A probable cause search was conducted during which officers located a methamphetamine pipe and a baggie containing a crystalline substance consistent with methamphetamine in Sorter’s purse. Sorter admitted to smoking methamphetamine four hours prior to the stop.
She consented to field sobriety and ARIDE testing and showed numerous validated clues and indicators of impairment on the tests. Sorter later consented to provide a urine sample for chemical testing.
The Iowa DCI Criminalistics Laboratory provided a toxicology report on the sample Sept. 28. The report showed a confirmed presence of methamphetamine and amphetamine.
Sorter was transported to the Union County Jail where she was released from after posting $2,300 cash or surety bond.
