Driving too fast for conditions lead to a one-vehicle accident early Monday morning in Union County.

According to a Union County report, at approximately 12:40 a.m. a 2002 Dodge Ram, driven by Damon M. Hayes, 21, of Afton, was southbound on Owl Avenue, when it came to a sharp curve that Hayes was unable to negotiate.

Hayes told deputies he was traveling approximately 60-65 mph on the 50-mph road leading up to the accident. At the sharp curve, the Dodge entered the east ditch and rolled. The Dodge rolled through several several feet of a barbed-wire fence.

Hayes was able to exit the truck and walk to a nearby residence to call for help. He sustained minor injuries but declined medical care at the scene and was instead transported to the hospital by a private vehicle.

Damage to the Dodge was estimated at $10,000 and damage to the fence and fence posts was estimated at $500.
