A reported shooting and active shooter situation Saturday night was determined to be false and classified as a swatting call by the Creston Police Department.

According to a press release issued by the Creston Police Department, at approximately 11:43 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, a caller, identifying himself as Jackson Elkhorn, reported he had shot his mother in the face with a revolver several times after they had been in a fight. Elkhorn stated he planned to shoot law enforcement when they arrived because he had nothing else to live for.

Creston Police officers and deputies from the Union County and Adams County sheriff’s offices responded and assisted in blocking off the 500 block of West Prairie Street.

One of the officers on scene, who was familiar with the resident that lived at the address given by the caller, attempted several times to contact them by phone but was unsuccessful.

As officers approached the residence, a male stepped out the front door. He was given commands by officers, which he followed. The situation was explained to him and the other resident of the home. It was confirmed that everyone at the residence was uninjured and had not called 911.

This incident is currently under further investigation.
