Melissa K. Stephenson, 38, of Creston, was taken into custody 12 p.m. May 20, at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on a Union County warrant charging her with four counts of possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense.
According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 11:14 p.m. March 11, officers went to Stephenson’s residence on Summit Street looking for her because she had active arrest warrants. Stephenson answered the door and after being told of the warrants, asked if she could go back inside for a moment. Officers allowed her to with the stipulation that she allow them to accompany her.
While inside the residence, a container resembling a THC wax container was observed in plain view on the coffee table. Stephenson admitted that it was a wax container but said it contained tobacco. Officers asked if they could check and verify the contents and Stephenson said they could. Inside the container was a dark, waxy substance which smelled like marijuana.
Stephenson was told due to officers seeing the wax, they would get a search warrant for the residence or she could provide consent for them to search it. Stephenson understood and gave her consent to search the residence and stated she was the only person who lived at the residence.
During the search, officers located two oxycodone pills, one hydrocodone pill, a small amount of methamphetamine and various items of paraphernalia.
Stephenson was transported to the Union County Law Enforcement Center where she agreed to work with law enforcement. All items found were sent to the state lab for further testing and the substances were confirmed by the lab.
Stephenson was transported to the Adams County Jail and held on $20,000 cash or surety bond.
