A Creston bicyclist was transported to the hospital for injuries Monday after being struck by a car.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 4:24 p.m. a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Helen M. Waddell, 75, of Creston, was northbound on Birch Street. The Jeep stopped at the Irving Street intersection then proceeded northbound.

At the same time, Charles R. Balius, 54, of Creston, was westbound on Irving riding a bicycle. As the Jeep proceeded through the intersection, the bicycle collided with the Jeep.

Waddell said she looked but did not see the bicycle. Police cite Waddell failing to yield the right-of-way from a stop sign as a contributing factor to the accident.

Balius complained of suspected serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Greater Regional Health.

Damage to the Jeep was estimated at $500.
