A motorcycle was struck Saturday night in Creston in a hit-and-run accident. The accident is still under investigation.

A Creston man remains in a Des Moines hospital following a two-vehicle accident Saturday night in Creston. A search for the driver who hit him is underway.

According to an initial Iowa State Patrol report, at approximately 8:49 p.m. Jason L. Hagle, 51, was westbound on Highway 34 (Taylor Street) on his 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle. As the Harley reached the Wyoming Street intersection, a southbound 1995 Chevrolet pickup that had been stopped at the stop sign, began to make a right turn onto the highway, turning directly into the path of the Harley.

Hagle braked but was unable to avoid the collision which caused the Harley to slide on its side before coming to rest. The driver of the pickup did not stop but the truck was found nearby unoccupied.

Hagle was transported by helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines for his injuries. According to updates from Hagle’s wife Lisa, he has suffered a head injury and a fracture on the third vertebrae.

Responding to the accident were the Creston Police Department, Creston Fire Department, Greater Regional Health ambulance and EMS, Union County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol.

The accident remains under investigation.
