Dortha (Fleener) Reynolds was born Jan. 1, 1928, the daughter of Obie Fleener and Corda (Wildey) Fleener in a farmhouse near Zion. She was the fourth child in a family of seven including one brother, Cecil; five sisters: Audrey, Rosie, Esther, Francis and Beatrice. Dortha “Dot” grew up attending school in Zion, graduating from Zion High School with the class of 1945. After graduation, Dot worked for JC Penney’s in Winterset before meeting Robert “Bob” Reynolds of Lenox at the Chicken Inn in Creston where they were both attending a dance. An ash from Bob’s cigarette burned a hole in her nylons which were quite expensive at the time, but Bob promised to replace the nylons.
On June 25, 1950, she was united in marriage to Robert R. Reynolds and to this loving union three children were born: Robert Harold, Deborah Ann and Nancy Sue. Dot enjoyed following her children and grandchildren’s activities. She still loved watching University of Iowa and Iowa State University football and basketball games on TV.
When the children were grown, she worked part time at Reynolds Insurance Agency during tax season. Dot was a member of the Lenox United Methodist Church and was active on church committees throughout the years. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Left to cherish Dot’s memory are her children: Robert (Kim) Reynolds of Elkhorn, Nebraska; Deb (Tom) Nevins of Eugene, Oregon, and Nancy (Jeff) McCarville of Carroll; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Esther Rynearson of Lorimor and sisters-in-law: Virginia Fleener of, Palos Verdes, California, and Adelyn Cox of Hornick, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Preceding Dot in death are her parents, Obie and Corda (Wildey) Fleener; her loving husband Bob in 2018; her brother Cecil; four sisters: Audrey, Rosie, Francis and Beatrice, along with several brothers- and sisters-in-law.
We will forever hold the precious memories of Dot in our hearts. May she be at peace in Gods loving care.
