Della LaVern Marckmann was born in Prussia Township, Adair County, the daughter of Claus and Elvena (Jacobsen) Mangels on August 25, 1927. She died on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society in Fontanelle, at the age of 94.
Della attended country school in Prussia Township and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1945. On April 23, 1949, she was united in marriage to Clarence William Marckmann in Shenandoah. To this union three children were born; Becky, Steven and Craig (Corky).
Della taught country school in Prussia Township for a few years and after her children were grown she worked as a substitute in the Fontanelle School kitchen. She loved baking, cooking, dancing, her dogs and cats and especially her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence Marckmann; brother, Eldon and wife Virginia Mangels; sister, Leida and husband Alfred Tilk; and nephew, Gene Tilk.
She is survived by her three children; Becky McCann and husband Mike of Oswego, Illinois, Steve and Craig both of Fontanelle; three grandchildren, Kimberly Kamis and husband Russ of Orchard Park, New York, Micheal McCann and wife Jennifer of Algonquin, Illinois and Boe Marckmann of Fontanelle; five great-grandchildren, Elena Kamis, Emilia Kamis, Allison McCann, Henry Kamis, and Elizabeth McCann; very special friends of the family, Jan McMorran and Justi Zimmerline; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life services were 10 a.m. Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle, with burial in the Fontanelle Cemetery. Pastor Steven Broers officiated the service.
