ECC starts delayed by construction

Due to construction, kindergarten classes will have no school Sept. 8-12 and preschool will not begin until Sept. 15.

Students in Creston’s kindergarten and preschool classes will have a different start to the new school year that originally expected.

The Creston Community School District announced Monday two new formats for these students based on construction delays to the new ECC building.

Families with children entering kindergarten will have a two-week “soft start to school” experience in temporary classrooms in the elementary school beginning Monday, Aug. 25. During this time, students will learn the new routine and make new friends. Since the new playground is not yet complete, a temporary fence will be installed at an existing playground.

After this two-week period is over, there will be no school for kindergarten students from Sept. 8-12. During this time, staff will be setting up the classroom space in the new building. CCSD is calling this one week transition period “Ready, Set, Move!” Kindergarten classes will resume in the new building Monday, Sept. 15.

Families with preschool students will not send their children in for class until Monday, Sept. 15 due to ongoing construction.

An informational meeting with CCSD staff and administration is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19.

Open houses will also be offered for both the new preschool and kindergarten spaces from 5 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11.
