The Union County Conference Board met to discuss the assessor's budget for fiscal year 2026.

Upkeep to a Union County care facility was outlined during a report to Union County in a quiet meeting last Wednesday.

Innovative Industries gave their quarterly report to the Union County board of supervisors, representing local care facilities for older Iowans.

Heartland Innovative Industries Chief Financial Officer Carol Smith and CARE Administrator Joni Brammer represented Innovative Industries, presenting a quarterly report for the operations of the Community Adult Residential Environment.

CARE operates in Afton, 500 Opal Street, but reports on their operations to Union County. The facility offers residential care to older Iowans. Ten residents reside in the facility’s A home and 11 in the B home.

The quarterly report covered the first three months of 2025, January through March. A building repair list, alongside other expenses, were given to the board of supervisors.

Smith said the facility’s finances were doing well, including how the facility made a profit during 2024. Brammer outlined a few areas in the facility which would need repairs and repainting. Floor, roof and boiler repairs along with a potential new vehicle were detailed as potential expenses in the future.

Supervisor Dennis Hopkins recommended CARE create a priorities list for the most important or needed projects so Union County could help fund these repairs.

Over the next few meetings, the board of supervisors will commit to reviewing and potentially workshopping the county’s ordinances, updating them if necessary to fit the Union County of today.
