The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Winter Weather Advisory beginning 9 p.m. tonight and running until 6 p.m. Tuesday for the area. Snow is expected to begin falling tonight over southern Iowa and lift north into Tuesday. Roads will likely be covered in most of the area during the Tuesday morning commute. The most recent weather models predict two to four inches of snow for Creston and surrounding areas although accumulation totals over four inches are possible especially along the Interstate 35 corridor.
A celebration of 50 years of high school girls basketball in Creston will be held Tuesday night in the Creston Community High School gym. The event is open to the public, with a special invitation to all past players, youth players and current middle school and high school team members.
At one time in their lives, Creston Police Officers Corey Dorsey, Nick Perry, Patrick Roche and Ethan Zepp were protecting the country. Now, they are protecting the citizens of Creston.The four police officers have the common bond of having served in the military before exchanging uniforms for the Creston Police Department.

Creston Automotive will present “Go Further with Ford Night” 2 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday. This is a free fundraising event to benefit Creston YMCA, engage consumers in the final “Random Acts of Fusion” adventure and offer a chance to see the all-new 2013 Ford Fusion. Go Further with Ford Night is the finale to Random Acts of Fusion, a transmedia program hosted by Ryan Seacrest that has generated more than 12 million consumer engagements with the Ford Fusion by playing out a story arc through multimedia platforms.
Senior outside hitter Brianna Maitlen and sophomore middle hitter Natalie Mostek represented the Creston Panther volleyball team on the Hawkeye 10 All-conference teams released on Monday. Both Panther players were selected to the honorable mention team. Mostek led the Panthers in kills (175), aces (23), digs (125) and blocks (44) this season. Maitlen, meanwhile, finished second on the team in kills (155), aces (20) and digs (123), while finishing fourth in blocks with 15.
The Southwestern Community College women finished 31st and the men placed 33rd at the NJCAA Cross Country Championships here Saturday. The women were led by the 56th-place finish out of 295 by sophomore Kalli McCann of Osceola. McCann ran 20:05 over the 5K course. Regina Hafner finished 179th overall in 21:51 and Delaney Turner placed 197th in 22:08 for the Spartan women.

Ronn Vandevender’s birthday is Nov. 15 and he was hoping his wife, Jami, would surprise him by having their child on that day. But the baby came two weeks earlier. The surprise was where it happened. Jami delivered a healthy baby girl 10:33 a.m. Friday in Dr. Chuck Hoyt’s exam room in the Medical Arts Plaza of Greater Community Hospital. The delivery room was too far away and Jami couldn’t wait to get there.
Creston/Orient-Macksburg started quickly but couldn’t hold on to their early lead Friday night, succumbing to Council Bluffs Lewis Central in the season finale, 23-17.
If the Creston Community School District wants to build its new elementary/middle school on the Britten family property, more money is needed. The property located on North Lincoln Street has been in negotiations for several months, but the two parties remained far apart on a final figure. So far apart, in fact, for the first time in at least 15 years, the Union County Compensation Board was called into session Monday for a condemnation hearing on the matter.

Calista Cross, a fifth grader at Irving School, was the overall winner of the 1992 fire prevention poster contest sponsored by the Creston Volunteer Firemen.
The Creston High School Music Department will present “Lil Abner An Original Msical Comedy” based on characters created by Al Capp. The activity ticket night is 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6. Other performances are at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7 and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8.
