Fuller Center for Housing to have open house

Fuller Center for Housing of Southern Iowa is having an open house Saturday, Oct. 26 for its newest Creston home at 1004 N. Cherry St.

The Fuller Center for Housing of Southern Iowa is having an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at its completed home at 1004 N. Cherry St. in Creston.

The house was built with the assistance of the Southwestern Community Colleges carpentry trades program, electrical technology program, Southern Iowa Council of Governments housing trust fund, city of Creston and Akin Building Products.

The house is 1,092 square feet with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and has an Energy Star rating. The Fuller Center is also building another three-bedroom home at 1109 N. Sycamore St.

The Fuller Center works on projects that help allow people to stay in their home and other projects. This month, the Fuller Center assisted with rebuilding the playground equipment at Salem Lutheran Church. The center also received a phone call from a retired veteran who had problems with his deck. Because of a collapsed sewer line, the center removed the deck from the house and rebuilt it smaller and in another location to avoid settling problems. Leftover lumber from the deck was sues to replace decking and stairs on the front deck.
