Ace Hardware holds grand opening in Greenfield

True Value changes branding

Customers check out the new Greenfield Ace Hardware during its grand opening last weekend. The store was previously known as True Value but has been rebranded as an Ace Hardware store.

The color is still red, the employees are the same and the service is the same, however Greenfield True Value became Greenfield Ace Hardware recently. It held a grand opening for the rebrand last Friday and Saturday.

David Wallace owns the store located at 506 SE 6th St. He also owns Wallace Auto and Greenfield Home Store and More.

Switching to the Ace brand allows his store to continue receiving national advertising, Wallace explained.

“They will give me new brands that I never had because True Value didn’t have a lot of the brands these guys have,” Wallace said. He listed several brands of grills, power tools, paints and more that he didn’t have access to under the old name. Many of these are better quality brands than before.

True Value took bankruptcy last year, Wallace said. The brand Do It Best! was thinking about purchasing True value, but that brand is already here in town.

“You see Ace all the time on television,” Wallace said. “I just wanted something with national advertising. They’re kind of the better company right now.”

The store is largely the same inside, though new signage has gone up and a few items have been rearranged. There will hopefully be room for mowers indoors again soon like before, Wallace said. As a result, some of the grills could need to be relocated to the Home Store.

“It’s nice having Craftsman tools and all the other product lines. Like, you can walk back there to the screwdrivers and you have Ace, Craftsman and Millwaukee all at the same spot,” Wallace said. “You can price them and compare them to decide which one to get.”

Ace Hardware has another benefit to customers in online ordering. Some items may be able to be delivered locally.

“There will be aspects we couldn’t do with the previous company,” Wallace said. “Everything’s gone online now anyway.”

Wallace Auto has been locally owned since 1958. First owned by David’s dad Richard Wallace, it began east of the square and then moved to the square in 1974.

Wallace Auto, which carries NAPA products, has been under the same roof as True Value since David purchased True Value about a dozen years ago. True Value was owned by Kent Sinn before that.

Greenfield’s Ace Hardware is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays.
