IOWA CITY — Greenfield youngster Micah Norby is this week’s kid captain for the University of Iowa football team as they face Penn State 6 p.m. Saturday night at Kinnick Stadium.

Micah, the son of Michael and Michelle Norby, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy after his family noticed he was lagging behind in sports. A new gene therapy was found that is expected to to slow progression of the disease, but it needed to be administered before Norby turned 6. After several delays, Micah received the treatment a day before his sixth birthday. He was the first boy to receive the treatment at the Stead Family Children’s Hospital outside of clinical trials.

Micah, whose family also includes older brother Maverick, was joined by his family at a media day in August where every kid captain for the upcoming season could take part in team activities for a day, talk with players and coaches, look around the Hawkeyes’ facilities and conduct interviews to be used throughout the season.

Micah is the seventh kid captain of the season for the Hawkeyes.
