Rigid Edge Exteriors is the contractor who was awarded the bid for replacing three portions of the roof on Nodaway Valley Middle School, during a school board meeting held there Wednesday, Aug. 13.
Earlier this summer, Nodaway Valley Maintenance Director Brian Crees told school board members rainwater was leaking into the school in three different place, including in the gym and on the stage. Maintenance and custodial staff were having to go clean the rainwater up shortly after it would rain to clean up the mess.
The bid Rigid Edge gave listed work to be done over the gym, the stage and the other main portion of the school, which included the library. The material Rigid Edge wants to use is thicker than what other bidders quoted. The work comes with a 20-year warranty.
Crees said modern roofing materials are white, which reflects sun better, making cooling the building more efficient. Rigid Edge will remove and reset rooftop HVAC units as part of the project. Crees said Rigid Edge told him they were ready to start if their bid was the winner. Work is expected to take 3-4 weeks.
Rigid Edge’s bid came in at $330,033.08 while Omni Exteriors quoted $342,896.59 and M&M Roofing and Coating quoted $356,551.65.
While the timeline has been tight, secured entrance projects are nearing completion in all three buildings as school starts Monday, Aug. 25.
Crees and Superintendent Dr. Pam Stangeland were scheduled to meet last Thursday with construction leaders from Boyd Jones. Their impression as of the school board meeting was that the secured entrances would be complete but secretaries may have to work from temporary desks to start the school year.
“I’m staying on top of them as best as I can,” Crees said.
In other action, the board:
