Final sketch OK’d for grandstand

Work will be done next spring

The grandstand is full at an event during a past Adair County Fair.

The former grandstand at the Adair County Fairgrounds has come down and way is being made for a new structure that will emerge from the dirt next spring.

The latest part of the process required a meeting between fair board representatives and TownsEnd Co., which is the company building the new grandstand. This meeting included passage of a final drawing for the grandstand.

In an update to the board of supervisors during their meeting Wednesday, Aug. 13, Chairman Nathan Baier, who is also on the fair board, said the new grandstand will have a capacity of 998, a length of 120 feet and a height of 15 rows of seating. It will have a roof over the seating area similar to the old grandstand.

“The only thing we changed is we raised the elevation of the grandstand to match the elevation where it is being put on the slab,” Supervisor Chairman and fair board member Nathan Baier said.

Now that the supervisors approved the final drawing, the company will start building the grandstand at their factory. Work is expected to happen on erecting the new grandstand next spring.

Adair County Concrete was the only one of three contractors invited to submit a bid for concrete work around the veterans memorial at the courthouse to actually submit one. The amount for the project is $3,250.

In other agenda items, the board:

• heard a report and approved funding request from Michelle De La Riva of Community and Family Resources

• heard a report from Enviornmental Health Director Jotham Arber

• signed a contract and approved performance bonds for a bridge project along 140th Street in Section 27 of Lincoln Township
